Tea with Cinnamon

He’s holding the mug tight enough that he can’t see his hands shaking, even though he knows they are. He doesn’t tell Aki he’s awake because he had that dream again, and that he’s trying to make tea because he was hoping the light in the kitchen and burning on his tongue would have him stop seeing that door every time he closes his eyes.
---
Denji can't sleep so Aki overreacts and has to handle the consequences of his actions, but maybe they understand each other a little better now, actually.

An Unfamiliar Domesticity

He turns the handle and swings the door open, stepping to the side to wave in his new roommate, who steps over the threshold and glances around the apartment. Aki steps in behind him, shutting and locking the door. He checks the lock, and again, then turns to face Denji.

“It’ll be a little cramped with both of us, but we’ll just have to deal with that, I guess.”

---
The simple story of Denji and Aki's first full day as roommates, told over four parts.

friend, foe, chainsaw

And so they’d fallen into a strange but workable groove - Makima would call them to take care of a devil, the two of them would make quick work of it, and then they’d pick up some take-out on the way back home. Despite Denji’s many, many flaws, Aki reluctantly found himself growing almost comfortable with their shared new existence, and they’ve both found themselves learning to work alongside each other in the field well enough.

Except, of course, when Denji gets cocky, tries to do a “sick move I saw on TV”, and gets caught off-guard and bodily rammed through the side of a barn.

---
When a fight with what should have been a weak devil goes sideways, Aki finally gets to decide if Denji is useful or not.
